Broccoli Rabe with Garlic, Red Pepper Flakes & Lemon

The perfect side when you want something fresh, lemony, and a little bold. 💚

I’ll always choose broccoli rabe over regular broccoli — it has a more peppery, intense flavor that I absolutely love.

Pair it with your favorite protein and you’ve got a beautiful dinner on the table in under 30 minutes. ✨ For my locals, I paired mine with the satay pinchos de churrasco from La Hacienda

Serves 2–3

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch broccoli rabe, trimmed and washed
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • Zest of ½ lemon
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Salt, to taste

Directions

Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Add sliced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Add red pepper flakes and stir.

Add the raw broccoli rabe with a pinch of salt and red pepper flakes.

Toss, then add 2–3 tablespoons of water. Cover the pan and let it steam for 2–4 minutes.

Uncover and sauté for another 2–3 minutes, until tender and lightly caramelized.

Finish with lemon zest and lemon juice.
